Project Overview

The residential property in Surrey has a south-facing pitched clay-tile roof, providing a suitable area for rooftop solar PV generation.

The homeowner wanted to generate more renewable electricity on site, reduce dependence on the grid and gain greater control over household energy use and long-term electricity costs.

The resulting system combines rooftop solar PV with battery storage and EV charging, allowing electricity generated during the day to be used directly, stored for later or used to support electric vehicle charging.

Solar and Battery System Design

The installation comprises 14 PV modules with a total capacity of 6.3 kW, connected to a 5 kW hybrid inverter.

Three 5.0 kWh battery modules provide 15 kWh of storage, while K2 mounting components secure the array to the property's pitched clay-tile roof.

The hybrid inverter manages energy flows between solar generation, battery storage, household loads and the grid.

Installation and Commissioning

The project involved roof mounting, PV module installation, hybrid inverter and battery installation, PV distribution-board work, AC/DC cable management and safety labelling.

As an integrated Sungrow system, commissioning and setup could be carried out through the Sungrow platform.

Once commissioned, iSolarCloud gives the homeowner visibility of solar generation, battery performance, household consumption and connected energy equipment through one monitoring platform.

Customer Testimonial:

"I am absolutely delighted with my solar panels and battery system. I have seen an immediate benefit from lower energy costs, and the satisfaction of relying far less on energy companies is extremely rewarding."  - Homeowner, Surrey

01

6.3 kW Rooftop Solar PV

Fourteen PV modules generate renewable electricity from the property's south-facing roof.

02

15 kWh Battery Storage

Battery storage allows surplus solar generation to be retained for use later in the day.

03

iSolarCloud Monitoring

Real-time monitoring gives the homeowner visibility of generation, storage, consumption and system performance.

Solar and Battery Storage Benefits

Solar PV generates electricity during daylight hours, while household demand is often higher in the morning and evening. Battery storage helps bridge this gap by storing surplus solar generation for later use.

For this installation, the battery system enables the homeowner to increase self-consumption, reduce electricity imported from the grid and support load shifting by storing energy for use at more cost-effective times.

When paired with a smart energy tariff, such as Octopus Intelligent Go, Agile or Flux, the customer can further optimise energy costs by charging the battery during off-peak periods and using stored energy when electricity prices are higher.

Project Outcomes

The completed installation enables the homeowner to make greater use of renewable electricity generated at the property.

Increased Solar Self-Consumption
Surplus electricity generated during daylight hours can be stored and used later rather than being immediately exported or left unused.

Reduced Grid Dependence
Stored energy can support household demand outside solar-generation hours, reducing reliance on electricity imported from the grid.

Lower Energy Costs
The project information forecasts energy-bill savings of around £100 per month, subject to household consumption, weather conditions, tariff selection and export behaviour.Battery storage can also support time-of-use tariffs by shifting electricity use towards lower-cost periods.

Greater Energy Visibility
Real-time monitoring helps the homeowner understand how electricity is being generated, stored and consumed across the property.

Lower Carbon Impact
Greater use of renewable electricity generated at the property can help reduce the household's overall carbon impact.

Future Readiness
The system provides a foundation for future household electrification, including potential EV charging or heat-pump integration.
