Alternergy & Zeversolar Installer Tour
Our first glimpse of the Eden Project as we walked down the road from the BRE National Solar Office was spectacular. Behind a colourful canopy of flowers, the domes glittered in the sunlight. We were here for the last of the initial series of our Zeversolar installer tour, held in the heart of the Eden Project.
For many installers, the idea of venturing into the world of commercial PV seems daunting, overcoming obstacles such as planning, grid connectivity and landlord-tenant relations just to start. However, with some careful preparation and planning this could be a highly attractive area for installers, particularly with the Government voicing its support of this as yet untapped market.
Preparation is key: having detailed installation plans, financial business models showing ROI from both FiT and self consumption, being able to demonstrate engineering knowledge and using well known bankable brands goes a long way to winning the commercial deal.
Critically, engaging the stakeholders and keeping them updated, paying attention to detail and being able to overcome each obstacle are all factors for installer success.
The Zeversolar-Alternergy tour was aimed at arming installers with the tools to approach commercial customers and broaden their reach. Over two weeks we held a series of three events in London, Birmingham and the spectacular Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall. Installers participated in lively debate and enjoyed catching up over networking drinks and food.
